In a press release today, it was announced that the France family, owners of NASCAR and IMSA, have officially trademarked the term “Race Fan ®”.
“This move was done to protect “Race Fans®” everywhere from being taken advantage of while attending motorsports events”, says a NASCAR representative.
They wish not to comment on their acquisition any further, other than stating “anyone who utters the word “race fan®”, “race fans®”, “race-fan(s)®”, or RaceFan(s)®” in any professional, motorsports, or broadcasting setting will have to either preemptively request permission, or face the wrath of NASCAR”.
