During the biggest IMSA race in history, one formula SAE team found itself relegated to a forgotten corner of Daytona International Speedway.
Hoping to secure valuable technical and financial support from the more affluent RaceFan®️ or race team, a local formula SAE team (a university student run automotive engineering competition) secured prime real estate at this year’s event.
However, it seems that IMSA organizers voiced their concerns before the event began, fearing that the college team’s presence near the paddock would distract attendees from the debut race of the new GTP cars. Not wanting to draw attention away from their new flagship class, a last minute relocation hid the team deep within a tent at the back of an infield parking lot.
“I was pretty hyped to work the event”, one member said, “then I learned I would be spending 24 hours hidden away in a tent not being able to network. I don’t know how much more I can take, I might go ask AF Corse if they need a tire runner or something and pawn this seat off to a freshman”.
