SCCA regional events will now have a new class eligible for competition. Acknowledging the trend of growing sun hat sizes across the board, particularly with autocross, the “Supreme Sombrero Award” has been introduced. This award is given out at the end of each regional autocross season to the man with the largest overall circumference of a sun hat. Extra points are added for each pin or patch placed on the hat.

“This really gives sun hat enthusiasts the opportunity to run what they brung, I personally can’t wait to see what shows up in the competition!” exclaims a local timing official with a Miata.

This may seem like an odd award to people unfamiliar with autocross and the related events, but to people in the know, it was only a matter of time before it happened. Can’t wait to see all those lovely sun hats!
