Undercover MSIMA contacts at BMW have reported an interesting new proposal overheard in meetings. Based on insights from the brand’s design and ergonomics teams, a special widebody version of the 7-series sedan could be in development soon.
If development is continued, this model would eventually replace the standard 7 to accommodate future technology needs. The newly released Lexus LM minivan and its four-foot wide rear flatscreen caused quite a stir at BMW. There was much distress voiced among infotainment developers, as this new luxury icon dwarfs the current 7 series’ screen by 17 inches.

“This is an unexpected development, and completely unacceptable”, said one executive who wishes to remain anonymous. “The digital display has always been the heart and soul of BMW, and our customers expect only the largest and clearest examples from out company. Lexus has created a great disturbance in our identity and we need to meet their new precedent.”
The current generation 7 series measures 77″ in overall width. If BMW was to match Lexus’ new screen width, that would leave only 29 inches for future infotainment expansion. Experts predict that this is insufficient to keep up with projected trends. Given this harrowing condition, the company is considering an overall widening of the vehicle body to further encapsulate the passengers in German digital bliss. How might this new luxobarge be styled? How might it be priced? And will it earn a similar ethos to the departed widebody Dodges?
MSIMA will be standing by with further developments
