In research for some material for another article, we came across this.
OOOH Boy where the fuck do we begin?
Ah yes, the Honda CR-Z. A car that you’d think was underrated due to how its left the public consciences only to then realize its just a slow and impractical disappointment of a car, but unlike a CRX it doesn’t make up for its lack of power by being lightweight and simple. Its a FWD hybrid, with all the weight and packaging issue and no benefit to handling or simple fun.
Then there’s the 3000GT. I think in order for a car to be considered, it first need to function as a car, and not as a desperate Facebook marketplace listing.
Apparently google says these selections were pulled from “across the web”. If so, I’d like to see the source that claims the Mazda Fucking Miata as an underrated car. I think it misread “underpowered”. But sure an MX5 is underrated compared to, say, a free Pagani Zonda R.
How about the NSX? Ever head of the magazine Road & Track? This car won 2017’s Performance Car of the Year. I’m pretty sure the NSX is universally known to be a good car, and a perfectly fine supercar. Sales are bad because its badged as a Honda/Acura in a market dominated by Ferrari and Porsche.
Speaking of Porsche, maybe 15 years ago the 914 could’ve passed as an underrated “gem” looked down upon by 911 purists. Yeah, well those same “purists” hoarded up all the good air cooled 911s, which means anyone with their head up their ass with money to burn can’t get a hold of them. Don’t worry though, you can spend $180,000 on this “hidden gem” of a rebadged VW project with an underpowered i4 or entry level flat 6. The true Porsche Experience… just go buy a manual 997 gts and thank me later.
Ah the Ford Flex. Fuck this car. I hate the name, the way it looks, the people I think would own these, I hate the sound they make, and I hate the very idea of this car’s existence. I could care less about how mediocrely adequate it is as daily transportation. What the hell makes it “underrated” anyways? The look? Good, I hope it stays dead.
Dodge neon… Not the ACR or SRT4, no no the base Neon. Its on the same level as the standard Honda Fit (a car which was an ocean of disappointment), the Nissan Pulsar (which a listed source claims to have excellent rear leg room), the Mercury Cougar (the late 90’s blob), and the Chevy Cruze. What the heck is so underrated about these? I think to qualify you need to have “a rating” to that isn’t just MPG and depressing Financing options.
All right, rapid fire brain hemorrhage inducing crap-shoot:
– Acura ZDX: I don’t actually recognize this as a car, I see it as a mistake
– Any fiat Listed: maybe the X1/9 if you live outside Europe but that’s a stretch
– Audi TT RS: compared to what a fucking GT3 race car?
– CTS V – refer to above
– either of the Lexusesses: google clearly doesn’t live in South Florida
However, I must commend google here. I’ve never heard of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. It seems like a fun drive, might have to look into one when the ej25 dies again in my STI. Anyone know where I can find more info on this elusive car? Is Mitsubishi still making them?
