The Lockheed Martin “Skunkworks” devision, who’s claim to fame seems to have been designing the SR72 concept design airplane from the 2022 summer hit film, Top Gun Maverick, and not much else, have announced an odd partnership with McLaren automotive, the British makers of super cars, electronics, and formula one car.
“We see this partnership as a bold new move for McLaren, which can hopefully blossom from the cross pollination between our two areas of expertise. Lockheed Martin has experience in [redacted] projects and we seek to strengthen our partnership going forwards” – McLaren spokes person.
Automotive and aerospace companies have had a long history working together or even being a part of the same organization. No doubt BMW, Mercedes, Saab, and Praga have gained invaluable insight on how to better engineer their cars after having first hand experience in aviation.
More recently however, Boeing has partnered with Aston Martin and Lamborghini. One can only speculate the value in such contracts, and knowing the competitiveness between aerospace companies, one must wonder if Lockheed’s move with McLaren was an attempt to block rivals Boing and Northrope from further expansion into the British automotive market.
We have also heard sources from Iran, that their homegrown aerospace corporation, who’s name I haven’t bothered to look up, will enter into a partnership with their own local supercar manufacturer, to produce a more capable and superior product, that will outperform whatever the Lockmart-McLaren partnership will produce, no really guys for realsies this time.
