In a move that surprised everyone and left many going “wait he’s still alive?”, Michael Waltrip has announced a renewed partnership with Italian racing team and close Ferrari partner, AF Corsa. Having worked together before to field Ferrari 458s in WEC and IMSA, a new partnership has begun to set out an operation to run in IMSA GTP.
“It all started when we got really drunk, and Darrel started talking about road racing again”, Micheal said, “I looked through my phone book and sure enough, I still had plenty of contacts back in Italy”.
The new team will revive the name of their endurance racing efforts until a title sponsor can be found, bringing the famed “AF Waltrip” name back into Motorsports. They have already set up shop outside of Mooresville, NC, with testing assumed at Charlotte speedway expected to begin in June. They plan to field a single Ferrari 499p LMH car in the top GTP prototype class in IMSA for the 2025 season, with plans to being in a second car for 2026.
