Saturn SC2 Restomod Debut

Fresh off the feedlot chute of automotive journalism, baked til crisp perfection and served on a silver platter for you hungry fucka, we have some big news.

“Yet another unaffordable, limited run, unasked for ‘restomod’ of a classic car that just needed new bushings, lights, and electronic ignition to be usable?” We hear your cries. And believe us, we understand your frustration. However, today we have something you’ve never seen before! They done Restomodded the Saturn SC2!

Dubbed the SC2 Hyperion, after one of Saturn’s moons, this is an SC2 like no other. The car is reborn out of carbon fiber, with the body expertly recreating the SC2’s lines, but tastefully and respectfully updating them into the 2020’s. The head and tail lights are custom LED units, with the option to have them pre-faded as an homage to the condition these cars were often found in after a year of ownership. The interior too, has been faithfully recreated. Genuine synthetic cloth seats from Recaro are up front, while the stitch pattern has been designed to mimic the tears, stains, and creases expected in a Saturn product from 2002. The doorsills and dash are painted carbon fiber and made to resemble the OEM plastic units.

The gauge cluster has been re-machined out of ABS plastic, meanwhile substantial changes have been made to the “infotainment” area. The radio has been disabled, with a period correct CD changer hardwired to play one of four CDs:

  1. 50 hour recording of Iraq war updates from NPR
  2. An audio recording of “Late Night Thoughts Listening to Mahler’s 9th Symphony” by Lewis Thomas
  3. Creed’s “Human Clay” album
  4. Ronald Regan’s Memoirs

“We wanted to not only capture the true essence of an early 2000’s Saturn, but an enhanced experience that truly transports the driver into an ideal 00’s driving experience”, Hyperion project lead Mike Hunt told us during a zoom call from his Miami Penthouse at 276 NE 3rd St, Miami, FL 33132.

The modifications aren’t just cosmetic. The SC2 Hyperion has custom active Multimatic DSSV dampers, active sway bars, and a tire specifically designed by Michelin to replicate performance driving from the early 2000’s. The engine has also been reworked utilizing help from the original engineers behind the car. While power is at a fairly modest 278 wheel horsepower, we are told more powerful versions are to come, once “the uncontrollable torque steer that makes this piece of shit undrivable” is solved. We are told that engineering specialists at Prodrive have been contacted about making the next car AWD.

Only 500 examples of the Saturn SC2 “Hyperion” will be sold, with a majority of them expected to be sold out on the car release date during the summer of 2025. Final prices have yet to be revealed, but we are told that they start at a relative restomod bargain of $87,640.00! I too would buy one over a Lotus, Cayman S, Ferrari 360, M3, and just about any other nearly $90,000 car. We at MisShift into My Ass can’t wait to get our grubby hands on such a historically significant restomod. Surely the hype is worth it!
