After scouring the internet for long forgotten obscure EV brands, I’ve managed to come up with a selection of TEN, that’s right TEN Chinese EV car brands that have gone kaput. Most of them ended interestingly, some not so much. Either way, here they are.

10. Ji Yue Auto

Looking like something out of Lexus’s failed backlog of concept cars, the Ji Yue Auto company quickly pushed out generic (although nicely colored) selection of vehicles that didn’t sell. In fact, just days before the company went under, they opened physical locations to sell these beasts of modern design. Brilliant foresight, Ji Yue. Oh, did I mention this was a joint venture with Geely? Of course it was.

9. Weltmeister Motor

Founded in 2017, this generic eSUV slop company lasted longer than most, a whole 7 YEARS! Within those 7 years, many innovations such as an app for your vehicle were developed. What happens when a company goes backrupt? All of that goes away! Yep, you’re locked out of your WM W6 because the app won’t fucking work.

8. Aiways

With only a single sad production car to show, Aiways attempted to expand globally. Great idea guys, I’m sure that’ll work. It didn’t? Oh well.

7. Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group

Evergrande (being the mega conglomerate) magically lost 10 BILLION DOLLARS over 2 years! Nothing says “startup EV company” like dropping 6 goddamn models at once.

6. Niutron

Of course, it’s the car everyone wants! A electrified Bronco sport knockoff! Wait, you DONT want that? Oh, well, I guess that makes sense it didn’t sell very well.

5. Bordrin Motors

A Model 3 had intimate sex with the Kia EV6. There is nothing else interesting with this, it’s just another EV blob that vaguely looks like other vehicles on the market.

4. Byton

The Byton has a particularly interesting China social point feature, something I’m sure us American would’ve loved. It uses a facial scan to enter your car! That way, the government knows who jacked off in the Byton previously. Time to be!

3. Singulato Motors

Somehow, Singulato fumbled the bag after blowing through over 600 million dollars of funding, to only fold less than a decade later. No wonder, because they started to make these Cyberpunk lookin ass shitboxes, probably spent way too much developing it and then no one bought it.

2. Zhidou Electric Vehicles

What the fuck is this cute little thing?? It’s adorable! Thankfully, this company isn’t QUITE dead, they went kaput in 2019 but was magically restored. They’re back to creating cute little baby EV “cars” for all of china to enjoy!

1. HiPhi

Good fucking lord what is this? It looks like some fantasy vehicle some superhero would drive in the next Marvel movie set in 2035. Yes, these were actually produced, at least for a small amount of time, before going under (thank god).
