Police Departments ask Tesla to Install Radar Retroreflectors on the Cybertruck to Combat its Stealthy Shape

From the homeless tent of your local NonCredible™ Mechanophile

Multiple police departments have filed complaints against Tesla stating that their radar guns cannot effectively determine the speed of the vehicle, sources say.

When Tesla unveiled their Cybertruck, many people were confused at its unconventional shape. While officially its planar design is due to the choice of 1/4 inch cold rolled 300-series stainless steel for the body panels, a different explanation has emerged. Our internal sources at Tesla were able to get in contact with the original designer of the vehicle, who has asked to remain anonymous. Here is what they had to say:

My computer broke the night before the design was supposed to be submitted, so I had to use my dad’s old computer from the 70s. Wouldn’t you know it, he still had the files for the F-117 on it. I always liked that plane, so I just squashed the nose and removed some features and submitted that.

The F117 itself is quite unconventionally designed, a design driven by the need to reduce its radar cross section (RCS). With these new details about the Cybertruck’s origin, it’s no surprise that it too has a small RCS. Listed in one of the complaints is a comment from an unnamed officer describing the stealth capabilities of the Cybertruck:

Most of the time the radar gun doesn’t even detect it. The first time I managed to clock a Cybertruck, it was going 83 mph on US-80. Thing was, the RCS was the same as a Vespa, and I thought ‘they can’t even go that fast’ so I assumed it was a glitch.

When we reached out to a Tesla spokesperson, they stated that “Radar reflectors are not required by either the NHTSA or the EPA. While we do strive to have a positive relationship with law enforcement, adding such a feature would greatly disrupt the aesthetic design of the Cybertruck.”
