At the start of this year, a bunch of “well respected” and “credible” automotive magazines published top 10 lists recapping the best concept cars from the last few decades. Well, not only did we figure that MSIMA could do better, but we also forgot about this article until October! So, let’s dig into this 6 month marinated article then:
10. Alfa Romeo Diva

Starting off strong with a 2006 Alfa Romeo concept, the Diva’s story is a bit of a tragedy. This beautiful (in my correct opinion) car is a fully functional homage to the 33 Stradale. Based on a modified 155 GTA platform, the Busso v6 and manual now sit midship powering the rear wheels. The car was also spearheaded as a single designer’s vision, who created this masterpiece to conform to actual homologation requirements. Which means this thing is more or less a fully functional car that met most in-period laws for road legality. The tragedy of this story is that the Alfa halo car we got in the early 00’s was the 8c and not this.
09. Acura Performance EV

“WE WANT A NEW NSX!”, screams the buying public who failed to buy the last two models of NSX when they were new. Hush now, before they get any crazy ideas like bringing back the ZDX- oh right that happened too. Anyways, take your EV slop car revealed at Monterey for some heretical reason and stop your bitching, that’s our job.
08. Mazda Kusabi

While the world waits hopelessly for a rotary Mazda that isn’t the range extended MX30, you can browse through the annals of history and gaze upon the Mazda Kusabi. Is it a new RX7? No, but it has an ass. In fact, the rear of the car looks like a mix of a Japanese commuter train, the Mosler Raptor, and someone midway through eating a cookie while undergoing anaphylaxis.
07. Rolls-Royce 103EX

A square building with square ass Minecraft trees produces this square block of metal cheese. Right then Rolls Royce. How wide are the tires of this thing? Better yet, why are riding on the bling, Mr. Royce? Stupid question, convenience is a luxury.
06. Acura DN-X

Uhhhh this cool I think? It kind of looks like an Autodesk CAD example model from 2008. Something you’d find in a children’s paperback picture book called “Cool Cars”.
05. Mitsubishi CZ-3 Tarmac

Ayo that’s radical dude!!! Who the FUCK needs doors? Why do you want to leave? Where do you need to go? Just you… and me… and the two empty rear seats in our Mitsubishi… WHY ARE YOU RUNNING AWAY?!? STAY HERE WITH ME FOREVER!
04. Acura Advanced Sedan

Oh yes, a very reasonable place to position headlights. Where else would the headlights be placed? I don’t know, but they should DEFINITELY make the face of the car look like this:

03. Citroen Survolt

What a… thing this is. French car companies tend to show off interesting designs. And this supercar… thing is certainly among them. But hey, if a glam-ed out insect with diabetes is what you’re after, maybe Citroen will sell it to you.
02.

The BMW Gina would’ve been to obvious. When all you have is fabric bodywork, everything becomes an orifice. So instead of that uncomfortable thing, we have THIS! Why Mercedes didn’t bother pushing it into production is beyond me. As is its method of steering. And suspending. And functioning.
Honorable Mention: Alfa Romeo Diva (again)

I just wanted to look at this car from another angle, and in no way do I require help with an unhealthy obsession.
01. Nike One

NIKE YOU LYING SON-OF-A-BITCH!!! WE’RE PAST THE YEAR 2022, WHERE IS IT? I was promised a Nike Once before I even graduated middle school. And now that I’m working, I can actually pretend like I’d buy one! You’re a buncha bastards for this, and we at MSIMA will never forgive.
